The reflective granite of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial lends itself to photography. The names of the 58,318 Americans who died in the war are etched in chronological order starting at the center of the two walls in 1959, and ending also at the center in 1975. Flowers, small flags and personal mementoes are regularly left at the base of the wall, a reminder that this sea of names represents real people.
